Today is Scott’s birthday. We’re in Torres del Paine National Park. It’s a pretty nice place to spend a birthday.
For Scott’s birthday, we had planned on doing an 8-hour hike up to see Las Torres. But what we didn’t anticipate was feeling this beat-up from the ride here. The wind has us a bit gun-shy and we’re not sure we can take another day of it. Furthermore, the last 45 minutes of the hike is described as a knee-popping ascent. Popping is the last thing our knees need, and right now, the hike has lost some of its original appeal.
There’s a fancy hotel at the base of the mountain with great views, plush leather couches, fireplaces, and a cafe. I asked Scott what he really wants to do on his birthday. Today, being inside, warm, dry, out of the wind, and on a comfy couch with a hot coffee won out. I agreed. And in the afternoon as we were lounging on the sofa, the clouds rolled in and the rain poured down, confirming we made the right decision.
