We are so ready to be out of the desert. We are tired of being baked by the sun for 15 hours a day. We are tired of heat rash, prickly heat, and sunburns regardless of how much sunscreen we apply. We are tired of being so hot that we’ll hug a shaded rock just to feel its coolness.
We want to see trees and grass and plants that don’t have thorns. We want to be surrounded by an abundance of cold water. We want to be out of the desert.
We are saved by the nights. They are our salvation. When the sun goes down we are wrapped in the cool, clear, calm embrace of night. We stare up at the star-leopard sky and see galaxies beyond the Milky Way. And in that moment, there’s nowhere I’d rather be.
The days may be brutal but the nights make them worth it.
