The Bosque de Piedras (Stone Forest), near Huayllay, is an area of impressive limestone rock formations that have been progressively exposed through erosion. The craggy rocks rise up like monuments, some resembling life-like figures. It has an otherworldly feel as we approached from the otherwise barren altiplano.

After enjoying a soak in the local hot springs, we got back on the bikes and rode through a valley filled with alpacas (the smaller, fluffy faced cousin of the llama).
By the afternoon we were stranded in Huayllay for a few hours when a wicked hailstorm blew in covering the road with ice.
