As the highest road in one of the most beautiful mountain ranges in Peru, to some degree, Punta Olimpica is a rite of passage for traveling cyclists.
We crushed it. All 16,100 feet (4907 meters). It’s our highest altitude on the bikes so far.
There’s a tunnel at 15,535 feet (4735 meters). It’s the highest tunnel in the world. But we bypassed it for the old road over the pass, which appears to be one rockslide away from being impassable. It was worth it for the spectacular views from the top.
It wasn’t the most difficult pass we’ve done, but it was the highest. For a moment it felt like we were on top of the world.
