Another short day of riding, partly because we’re running early, partly because my knee still hurts, and partly because there’s little villages calling to us from the coastline. These villages aren’t much, just dusty little fishing villages, but they have the most beautiful sweeping beaches with the mountains in the backdrop.
We were thinking we would try our luck with camping tonight because last night our bamboo hut on the beach turned into an insect infested, mosquito den. Neither of us slept well to say the least.
We scouted out an abandoned beachfront building on our way into town to get water. But on our way through town, there was a hotel. We both gave each other the look of “we should at least check it out”. When I asked about a room I learned they came with a fan, mosquito net and were $10/night. It even has cable TV and WIFI. We’re SOLD!
We’re suckers for the $10 hotels. It’s hard to believe we can get a hotel room for what we were paying to camp at the hiker/biker sites on the west coast. They’re not the fanciest accommodations, but they’re clean and usually more comfortable than camping. The fan should keep the mosquitoes at bay while we sleep tonight.
Now, we’re watching Ridiculousness with Spanish subtitles. It’s the only program playing in English. We’ve learned TV can be a great Spanish learning tool. This show is all about people doing really stupid things, usually resulting in guys crushing their man bits. I’m not sure about its educational value or applicability, though I am learning all sorts of new Spanish words and phrases. All I can say is I really hope I am never in a situation that calls for me to know the Spanish translation of buttwater – that’s nasty.
