Brrrr! We can see our breath inside the tent. We’re at 8650 feet of elevation and very near the Continental Divide. We’ll cross over it for the first time in Mexico within the first few miles of today’s ride.
We’re skirting around Mexico City to the south and spend much of the day riding through the chaos of urban sprawl. We are on our way southeast to Oaxaca. Breathing in the diesel fumes all day brings new meaning to Black Friday.
We see all sorts of crazy things being transported in the back of pick-up trucks here in Mexico. They are the obvious people movers. And then there are the pick-ups with boxes and furniture stacked 2x the height of the truck. They look like at any moment the weight of the load may topple over, taking the truck with it. But my favorite are the pick-ups with horses or other large livestock in the back. I want to know how they get them up in there because horses and cows are not exactly keen on jumping into the back of a pick-up.
