WanderWheels has received several emails about our bikes and gear that we carry.
Because we love our readers, we’ve started the Gear page. For some it will be a curiosity but for others it may help for planning their own two-wheeled, pedal-powered adventure.
The Gear page is set up as a spreadsheet. It currently has three tabs, “Bikes & Accessories”, “Tools & Spare Parts” and “Camp & Cookware”. In the future, we’ll add information about our clothes, personal items and technology that we carry. Additionally, we will add reviews for some items as well as the rationale for selecting the items we carry.
We sloughed off stuff as we travelled several times so far. The first gear dump was a few days into the trip when we arrived in Austin, Texas. The next occurred in Van Horn, Texas and most recently we sent items back with Mom and Dad Z after our visit in the San Diego area. When we weighed the loaded bikes in Missoula, Montana, Sarah’s weighed 100 lb (45 kg) and mine weighed 110 lb (50 kg). After the most recent purge they weigh less, but we haven’t weighed them.
We are definitely not in the ultra-light category of bicycle tourist. Some things we carry would seem excessive to someone out for a summer cross-country tour. Other bicycle tourists would be appalled that we aren’t carrying a solar powered blender for margaritas.
Enjoy perusing the list.
