Aloha, from the Hawaiian language, has come to be used in the English language as a greeting to say “hello” and “goodbye”.
Today was bittersweet. Gerald was moving on and we were going to stay with one of my best friends.
On the road, meeting other bicycle tourists is always a fun event. There is an immediate set of shared experiences. The stories of road angels, weather, food, etc. may be different, varying slightly in detail but there is a shared commonality. Sometimes, people just click, and they become part of your rolling tribe.
It happened on the way to San Francisco with Brad, Mary, Stef and Ash. It also happened with Gerald, who we originally met in Wyoming and most recently again in California. We completely enjoyed his company and he likely influenced our route through South America based on his research and descriptions of places he wants to visit.
Today we parted company and it was a sad occasion but it was tempered with the excitement of seeing old friends.
Aloha, Mike & Heidi.
