Today we completed our ride through Los Angeles. Thanks again to Terry, our WarmShowers host in Long Beach, for the delicious dinner and providing a place to stay midway. We left refreshed and thankful we didn’t have to make the ride through LA in one day.
The first part of today was easy as Terry lives just a short way from a bike path that took us back to the coast where we had more beach riding.
Unfortunately the bike path didn’t last forever and we were deposited back on Route 1 where we played hide & go seek with the shoulder, which when found was oftentimes doubling as street parking. Dodging in and out of traffic as we went around parallel parked cars we hoped no one was about to open their driver’s side door.
We’re camped tonight at Doheny State Beach. It is one of the least desirable camping spots so far. The hiker/biker site is sandwiched behind the bathroom, right next to the road and railroad tracks. Every time the train goes by it sounds and feels as if it’s headed straight for us. Then there are all the drunk/high/tweeking transients getting their party on in the hiker/biker site and surrounding area. There is no enforcement of quiet hours, so I lay away, nostalgic for the nights we spent stargazing in the silence and solitude of the desert.
