Travelling through Yellowstone has been a prismatic visual treat, but that is only part of it. The sounds and smells have also been amazing.
The geysers, mud pots and steam vents all produce a variety of noises. They hiss, spit, gurgle, belch, whistle, bubble, etc. One pool produced a deep resonant sound like the “thump – thump” of a heart beat.
The steam carries the smell of sulphur.
The trees catch the wind in their needles and leaves giving wind a voice. In addition to the calls, chirps, and bellows of wildlife, they make noise while chewing, pecking as well as running, walking and flying.
Floral smells waft across the meadows of grass from the Spring Flowers. Pine scents remind us of Christmastime.
Unfortunately, words and pictures can’t adequately describe what the other senses experience.
