We arrived in the Phoenix area on Saturday night to pick up our friend Elliot, who will be joining us for about a month.
Pat and Elliot’s mom, Monica kindly opened their home to us. It was our first chance to take a few days off, rest, recoup and repair. Thanks again to Pat & Monica!
Before setting out, I had a chance to catch up with one of my old high school friends, Duke whom I had not seen since graduation. More years had passed than the age we were when we last saw each other. By the end of the evening, the interim years felt like only a summer had passed.
The following day, Elliot, Sarah and I set out. It was great to have Elliot join us and magnificent to introduce another person to bicycle touring. Now living in Ohio, he grew up in the Phoenix area and that made getting out easier and more relaxed than when we arrived.
In Fountain Hills we hit jackpot with delicious cheap food and beer. After which, we rode into the sunset and set up camp in one of the nicest parks we’ve encountered yet, McDowell Mountain Regional Park.
