I bid my slightly beat up Sakkit and faded bags farewell at the end of March. Jon, the new owner, promised to let me know about its continuing adventures.
Curious about their whereabouts, I replied to the old Craigslist email from when I was selling the bike. Four days later, I received a short reply. They were rolling around the East Coast. Jon had posted some pictures on crazyguyonabike.
I could not believe the new look of my old bike. Smurftastic! It appears that Jon re-sewed the bags with the non-faded outer part The bags look new.
I purchased the tandem bags that had a zip on outer compartment that essentially doubled the volume. Originally, I made the naïve plan to pack enough to cover every contingency. It was a big mistake on my part. It just led to serious overpacking. The out part of the bags got sent back less than a week into my England to Singapore trip.
Seeing the rehabbed Sakkit makes me feel as if I have a small part in someone else’s adventure. The old bike has a new life and another person gets to experience some touring magic.
The road goes on forever.
