I can’t believe it!
After online shopping for Long Haul Truckers I somehow managed to convince the online price matching ‘bot to give me the ridiculous price of $870 for a complete LHT.
After a flurry a calls back and forth between Sarah and I, I threw down the MasterCard and ordered two complete LHTs for a total of $1740 with free shipping. A 2010 complete LHT typically retails for about $1095.
A few minutes later I received two emails. First was the automated order confirmation. The second came from a real person simply titled “Bike Order”. I fully expected that the “error” was discovered and the bargain purchase gig was up. This email “Bike Order” email was a notice that the order was cancelled.
Instead, I was offered:
- Curtain Number 1: A delay of 9 to 11 days as the distributor shipped the bicycles to the store and the store assembled and re-shipped to me, or
- Curtain Number 2: Direct delivery of the bike from the distributor and $40 off per bike if I would assemble them myself.
Cue the MasterCard commercial.
Two new Surly Long Haul Truckers shipped: $2190
Discount for outwitting a price bot and assembly bikes myself: $530
Fantasizing about the day I take off into the horizen: Priceless!
